Moore, OK Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Section 15-210 of the Moore Code of Ordinances, captioned to cover political signs specifically, prohibits placing, maintaining, or displaying any unauthorized sign, signal, marking, or device upon or in view of a highway if it purports to be, imitates, or resembles an official traffic-control device or a railroad sign or signal, if it attempts to direct traffic movement, if it projects flashing or revolving beams of light, or if it hides or interferes with an official traffic-control device or railroad signal. The same section separately bars placing any traffic sign, signal, or device bearing commercial advertising on a highway, and bans any public authority from permitting one.

Political campaign signs fall under this rule when they are erected close enough to a roadway to be in view of the highway and could be confused with, or interfere with, official traffic control. The section carves out an exception: it does not prohibit erecting signs on private property adjacent to a highway that give useful directional information and are of a type that can't be mistaken for an official sign, which is the route most political and yard signs in Moore rely on to stay legal.

If a sign violates the section, the city is empowered to remove it without prior notice to the owner. This provision derives from Oklahoma's Uniform Vehicle Code equivalent and was adopted locally by Ordinance 841(16) in 2016, cross-referencing the state's parallel highway-sign statute.
