Kenner, LA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Kenner's General Sign Regulations treat illuminated window signage as part of a building's overall attached sign allowance rather than as a separate, unlimited category. Section 11.04(b)(2) sets the baseline attached-sign rules: a building may have three square feet of sign area per linear foot of the primary frontage where the main entrance is located, or 20 percent of that frontage's elevation area, whichever applies, with no single attached sign exceeding 300 square feet. Within that framework, Section 11.04(b)(2)(c) singles out illuminated signs placed inside windows and located within five feet of the glass: they must be added into the building's aggregate sign area calculation, and separately, they cannot exceed 10 percent of the total glass area of the specific window in which they are displayed.

That means a business cannot cover a storefront window with a large illuminated display simply because its overall wall-sign square footage has room to spare; the 10 percent glass-area cap applies window by window. No variance is available from these sign area requirements under Section 11.04(b)(2)(a). Corner properties get one additional attached sign on a secondary frontage, capped at 50 percent of the standard allowable area, and developments meeting a minimum setback schedule can qualify for a larger attached sign area, but neither of those exceptions changes the 10 percent window-glass ceiling on illuminated interior signage.
