Sec. 417 defines a window sign as anything placed within three feet of the window pane, which pulls in signage set back from the glass, not just decals stuck to it. Each business use is limited to one window sign, and that sign cannot exceed nine square feet on any single window panel; the sign's area is also counted against the total square footage the use is otherwise allowed under its sign budget, so a window sign isn't a freebie on top of a business's permanent signage allowance.

If the sign is illuminated from inside, the ordinance permits only exposed neon lighting, ruling out backlit plastic or LED panel signs. Content is restricted too: copy is limited to business identification and a graphic symbol, or a combination of the two, and product signs, meaning ads for specific merchandise or brands rather than the business itself, are prohibited in every case. This sits alongside Sec. 418's separate permanent window sign allowance, which lets a business post one two-square-foot sign inside a door or window without a permit, and Sec. G's temporary window sign rules, which use panel-area percentages instead of a flat nine-square-foot cap.
