Inglewood, CA Solar Energy: Panel Permits (2026)

Section 11-169, adopted by Ordinance 21-04 on January 19, 2021, lists the substantive requirements a rooftop solar system must meet in Inglewood, separate from the expedited application paperwork covered elsewhere in Article 17. Every system must meet the health and safety standards the State of California and the City, including the local Fire Department, impose. A system used to heat water in a single-family residence, or to heat water for commercial or swimming-pool use, must carry certification from an accredited listing agency as defined by the California Plumbing and Mechanical Codes.

A system built to produce electricity must meet the safety and performance standards of the California Electrical Code, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, accredited testing laboratories such as Underwriters Laboratories, and, where applicable, the Public Utilities Commission's safety and reliability rules. 1, Division 5, Title 1 of the Government Code before any excavation, including sinking a ground rod for the electrical system; the city disclaims liability for a permit holder's failure to make that call. These requirements apply on top of, not instead of, Section 11-170's checklist and fee process and Section 11-168's definitions, which cap an eligible small residential system at 10 kilowatts AC or 30 kilowatts thermal, limit it to single- or duplex-family dwellings and their accessory structures, and cap panel height at the zone's maximum legal building height.
