Grand Prairie, TX Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 26-111 of the Grand Prairie Code of Ordinances sets the placement rules for every residential customer not using an approved commercial-type container. If the premises sits on an alley designated for garbage and trash collection, the customer must place all containers adjacent to that alley, at a location on the premises that stays easily accessible to the collector from outside the property. If no alley is designated for collection next to the premises, the customer must place containers at curbside on the street the premises is addressed on instead.

Where neither placement is practical, the local regulatory authority designates the most accessible collection point for that specific address. on the day before the scheduled collection day, preventing containers from sitting out for extended periods before pickup. Section 26-108 layers on additional container rules that apply regardless of where the container sits: every customer must use an approved residential container in sufficient number for the trash the premises generates, must keep containers securely closed to prevent scattering and to keep contents inaccessible to insects, rodents and other animals, and must not exceed the container's rated capacity.

Disturbing, pilfering or scattering the contents of any garbage or recycling container in an alley or street is separately prohibited as illegal pilfering under section 26-108(c). These sections were last amended together by Ord. No. 10722-2019, § 1, on September 17, 2019.
