West Bloomfield, MI Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

West Bloomfield Township Code Sec. 13-29 sets the curbside window for the township's single designated waste hauler system created under Sec. 13-28. Carts, bags and bundles may not be placed at curbside earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the day immediately before a scheduled collection day, and any storage container or leftover waste must be removed from curbside no later than 8:00 p.m. on the collection day itself. The ordinance presumes that whoever owns, leases or occupies the site of generation abutting the curbside is the person responsible for material placed there, which is how Planning and Development's code enforcement officers assign responsibility without needing to catch a resident in the act.

Yard clippings set out with a cart have their own preparation rule: twigs and branches under two inches in diameter must be tied into bundles no longer than four feet and no more than eighteen inches in diameter, and all other clippings go in a container or a bag clearly marked as yard clippings. Hazardous waste may never be placed at the curb, and the hauler is barred from knowingly collecting or delivering it if it is. The Township Board adopts the detailed pickup schedule, the approved container list, and container-storage rules by resolution, which the hauler's contract must track.

Because this article does not designate a specific civil-infraction fine for a Sec. 13-29 violation, an offense defaults to the Code's general penalty in Sec. 1-10: a misdemeanor punishable by up to ninety-three days in jail and/or a $500 fine, with each day of a continuing violation charged as a separate offense.
