West Bloomfield, MI Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Sec. 13-28(a) of the Township Code establishes weekly curbside collection as mandatory for every single-family and multiple-family residential dwelling with curbside service, carried out by a single licensed hauler awarded a contract through the township's competitive bid process. Sec. 13-28(b) bars residents from using anyone but that designated hauler for collection, transport, or disposal, aside from narrow exclusions in Sec. 13-28(d) for landscapers removing yard clippings, dumpster-serviced multi-family buildings, apartments and hotels, undeveloped property, and registered vacant property. Sec. 13-51(e) fixes the collection window at 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with Friday collection allowed only when a holiday falls that week or strikes, work stoppages, or bad weather force a shift.

Materials cannot be set at curbside before 6:00 p.m. the night before the scheduled pickup, and empty receptacles must be pulled back by 8:00 p.m. on collection day itself, per Sec. 13-29(a) and Sec. 13-51(c). A resident can temporarily suspend weekly service by giving the hauler written notice under Sec. 13-28(c), with service resuming automatically once the suspension period ends. Once materials hit the curb, Sec. 13-30 makes them the hauler's property, and it is unlawful for anyone besides the hauler or the generator to collect them.

Residents with a documented handicap or disability on file with the township clerk and the hauler are entitled, at no extra charge, to have materials collected from between their home and the road rather than the curb, under Sec. 13-51(d).
