West Bloomfield, MI Trash & Recycling: Illegal Dumping (2026)

Sec. 13-2 makes it unlawful to discharge hazardous waste, sewage, or foul, inflammable or nauseous liquids into any lake, highway, street or public place in the township, or to place or throw dirt, sand, gravel, ashes, straw, hay, boughs, garbage, rubbish, oil, gasoline, cleaning fluids or similar material into a drain or ditch where it might obstruct or clog it, a broad ban that covers the township's lakes as much as its streets. Sec. 13-108, in the composting article, adds a second, more specific ban: no person may dump or place landscape waste on someone else's premises or property without that owner's written consent, and even with consent it must be handled consistent with the article, and no person may dump or place yard waste on a township parkway, street, alley or other township-owned property except for pickup by a licensed hauler operating under the township's established ordinances.

Neither section fixes its own civil-infraction fine, so a violation of either defaults to the Sec. 1-10 general penalty: a misdemeanor punishable by up to ninety-three days in jail and/or a $500 fine, with each day of a continuing violation charged as a separate offense, on top of any equitable remedy the township pursues, such as an order to remove the dumped material.
