Section 111.05 addresses rubbish that does not fit the normal solid waste stream: bulky, non-hazardous items too large or heavy for routine collection are picked up by the City's licensed collector upon request, following procedures the contractor establishes and the City approves, rather than automatically on the weekly schedule set in § 111.04. This request-based bulky pickup sits alongside the separate leaf, tree, branch and miscellaneous item collection system that Chapter 113 funds through a monthly enterprise fund charge under § 113.03; § 113.02(6) defines "miscellaneous item collection" as items gathered at approved sites and times the City sets for disposal at the Metropolitan Landfill, and § 113.02(9) defines "tree and branch collection" as material the City collects, chips and returns to residents as mulch.

Because bulky rubbish collection runs through the same licensed-contractor system as routine trash, the collector must still meet the vehicle and loading standards in §§ 111.02 and 111.03, keeping bulky loads covered and cleaning up any spillage immediately, and the collector may enter private property to retrieve the item under § 111.06 without entering a dwelling. A resident who wants to haul bulky rubbish away personally can do so under § 111.07(7), which allows an owner to transport their own accumulated refuse provided it is disposed of properly at an approved sanitary disposal project.
