Bloomfield, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 611-2(I) of the Bloomfield Township Code, in the Board of Health's Chapter 611, governs bulk waste. Items too large to be contained in a receptacle must be broken or reduced in volume and tied or bundled so that the greatest dimension is not more than three feet. Furniture is the printed exception: it is accepted without being broken or bundled. No item or bundle can weigh more than 50 pounds, and the Director of Public Works and Parks reserves the right to reject any bulky item offered for collection if its disposal is prohibited at the facility the county designates for the Township.

Section 611-1 defines bulk waste or items as large residential waste, Type 13 DEP designation, including white metals but excluding construction debris. Subsection M lists what the township collection does not take, to be disposed of privately: construction debris, tires, propane gas tanks and electronics or TVs. Under Section 491-7(E), metal items are kept separate from regular refuse and the resident calls Public Works for a scheduled pickup, and Section 491-7(D) sends electronics to the Department of Public Works and Park Maintenance garage.

Timing rules apply to bulk piles. Under Section 611-2(H)(1), bulky wastes cannot go to the curb before 5:00 p.m. on the day preceding the scheduled collection day, and Subsection A(2) bars storing bulky waste or white metal between the building setback lines and the curb on noncollection days. Brush and limbs fall under Subsection J: cut into three-foot lengths, tied in bundles, with each item weighing no more than 25 pounds.
