Bloomfield, NJ Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Section 611-2(C) of the Bloomfield Township Code, in the Board of Health's Chapter 611, sets the collection window. Subsection C(1) covers Township-maintained streets and C(2) covers county-maintained streets, and both print the same limits: no garbage, refuse or rubbish collected prior to 6:30 a.m. and no later than 6:30 p.m. Subsection C(3) lets the Mayor and Township Council, on application and for good cause shown, alter those hours on a temporary basis. Subsection G(3) requires private haulers collecting from the curbside to collect on the same day municipal collection occurs in the area.

Recycling is handled in Subsection L: it must be put out on the appropriate weekly pickup, comingled versus mixed paper, and its receptacles follow the Subsection H placement rules. Chapter 611 defines regular solid waste collection service as the scheduled pickup and removal of solid waste at least once a week.

Yard material has its own schedule in Section 491-19(B). Brush, branches and yard raking go out in biodegradable bags, with pickups on the same day as recycling. Leaves are picked up March 15 through May 15 and October 15 through December 31. Christmas trees are picked up January 1 through January 31. Grass clippings are picked up May 1 through October 31, limited to three bags per pickup per household. Under Section 611-2(M), construction debris, tires, propane gas tanks and electronics or TVs are not taken in township collection.

Residents not served by the municipal collection service must contract with a licensed hauler under Section 491-12, and must give the Township Clerk proof of collection within 10 days of a written request under Section 491-13.
