Jackson, TN Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

The City of Jackson bundles bulk collection into its regular residential service: § 17-401 grants one- and two-family residential units twelve residential bulk waste or bulk yard waste pickups per calendar year at no extra charge beyond the monthly collection fee, though the two waste types can't be co-mingled in a single pickup. Section 17-402 spells out what qualifies. Bulk waste can include discarded furniture and appliances with compressors removed, but debris from paid contractors, automotive parts, and hazardous waste don't count, and household garbage can't be mixed in.

Bulk yard waste can't include limbs or trunks longer than eight feet or thicker than twelve inches in diameter, and loose material like grass and leaves must be bagged. Residents must place bulk items adjacent to and behind the curb or drainage ditch, at least three feet from mailboxes, poles, wires, and parked vehicles. Pickups have to be pre-scheduled with the department of health and sanitation; residential bulk waste can't be set out more than 48 hours before the scheduled date, and bulk yard waste can't go out more than seven days early.

Loads are capped at five feet high by eight feet long by five feet wide under § 17-402(6); anything larger, or waste that's noncompliant on size, accessibility, or content, draws the fee described in § 17-504 rather than counting toward the free twelve. A pickup from a vacant, unbilled property likewise doesn't count toward the twelve and is billed separately.
