Granville County, NC Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 38-104(b) of the collection and disposal article states the baseline duty plainly: the owner, occupant, tenant or lessee of any property shall remove or cause to be removed all solid waste from the property at least once each week. That duty sits alongside container rules in the same section: garbage must be stored in durable, rust-resistant, watertight containers with tight covers under § 38-104(c), and the number of containers on a property must be enough to hold a full week's accumulation.

Outside the towns of Oxford, Creedmoor, Butner, Stem and Stovall, and outside the incorporated part of the Camp Butner Reservation, weekly collection is delivered under an exclusive franchise the county granted to Waste Industries, LLC, effective January 1, 2014, per § 38-117. That franchise agreement had an initial five-year term with up to two one-year extensions, for a maximum of seven years, and it covers residential and commercial municipal solid waste plus recyclables placed in franchisee-provided containers. Section 38-105(a) reinforces the exclusivity: except for a resident hauling their own waste in their own vehicle, collection in the unincorporated county runs through the franchise, not through a hauler the resident picks independently.

Anyone who lets solid waste accumulate longer than the weekly window is in violation of § 38-104(b) itself, which the solid waste director enforces under § 38-103(c).
