Granville County, NC Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 38-102 defines yard waste as solid waste consisting solely of vegetative matter from landscaping maintenance, such as leaves, grass, limbs and trimmings. Section 38-104(o) makes the landfill off-limits to it by name, grouping yard waste with white goods, used oil, scrap tires and lead-acid batteries as materials no person may dump or deposit into any county-owned sanitary landfill. Anyone who does so must remove the waste immediately once a county representative asks; if they refuse, county crews remove it and bill the violator for removal, transport and the standard disposal fee for a load that size, on top of the $100 first-deposit penalty and $50-per-day penalty in the same subsection.

Section 38-107(c)(9) repeats the ban specifically for the county-owned municipal solid waste landfill on Landfill Road in Oxford, listing yard waste among wastes that cannot go into that facility or any privately or publicly owned landfill in the unincorporated county. The same section carves out the actual outlet: § 38-107(j) allows tires, batteries, used motor oil, white goods and yard waste to be accepted through the landfill's waste reduction and recycling programs instead, and a fee applies to commercial, industrial, institutional, governmental and residential users who use it. Section 38-113(d)(5) and (11) separately keep land clearing debris and yard waste out of the county's neighborhood solid waste convenience containers, so the recycling drop-off point, not the container site or the landfill cell, is where the material has to go.
