Janesville, WI Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 30-63 of the Janesville Code of General Ordinances, part of the article governing residential and nonresidential collection, sets the timing rules that frame the City's trash and recycling schedule. Under subsection (b), solid waste and recyclables cannot be placed at the street any earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled collection day, and whatever is set out must be at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on the actual collection day. Subsection (c) makes residential properties eligible for City collection at a frequency the City determines, while nonresidential facilities and properties must separately request service and be approved, and their per-event volume is capped at one 95-gallon cart of solid waste and two 95-gallon carts of recyclables without prior City approval.

Subsection (d) sets the citywide operating window for the collection activity itself: public and private trash and recyclable collection and hauling may only occur between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the City's residentially zoned districts, R1, R1D, R2, R3M, R3 and R4, meaning a private hauler cannot run an early-morning or late-night route through a Janesville neighborhood even outside the City's own scheduled pickup. These timing rules sit within Article III of Chapter 30, which also requires carts to be fully closed to be collected (Section 30-64) and bars anyone from disposing of waste that originated outside the City limits within Janesville (Section 30-65). The Director of Public Works can authorize exceptions to the standard placement manner set out in Section 30-63(a).
