Lee's Summit, MO Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 25-116 gives the City Council four options for providing collection: contracting with a person, county or other city for all or part of the City; providing commercial collection on application from a business (and requiring that business to arrange its own compliant collection if it doesn't apply or isn't approved); letting residents individually contract with a private hauler, subject to City approval and the hauler holding both a business license and a solid waste hauler license under § 25-31; or the City itself contracting for or performing collection of any residential waste not covered by an individual resident contract.

A sets the minimum frequency for residential solid waste, other than bulky rubbish, at once weekly. B sets the same once-weekly minimum for commercial solid waste, with the Director able to require shorter intervals when necessary to protect public health and safety. Section 25-117 authorizes solid waste haulers working for the City, under a City contract, or under an individually approved resident contract to enter private property to collect waste, including removing commercial waste from within a business. Section 25-31 backs this up by requiring anyone in the business of collecting, transporting, processing or disposing of solid waste within City limits to first hold both an annual business license and an annual solid waste hauler license, a requirement that does not apply to a licensee's own employees or to haulers removing earth and rock from grading or excavation.
