Lee's Summit does not force residents to recycle, but Code Sec. 25-126 requires every licensed hauler to offer curbside recycling of metal cans, #1 and #2 plastics, and newsprint, plus more.
Under Code Sec. 25-126, every company licensed to collect solid waste in Lee's Summit must offer customers curbside recycling of metal cans, rigid plastics coded #1 and #2, and newsprint, plus at least one of glass, magazines, office paper, cardboard, or plastics #3 through #7. Haulers must also offer separate collection of trash, recycling, and yard waste (Sec. 25-125). Recycling is a service haulers must make available, not a resident mandate. Free drop-off recycling is available at the City's South Recycling Center for residents who want to divert more.
A hauler that fails to offer required recycling risks license suspension or revocation under Code Sec. 25-38. There is no fine on residents for choosing not to recycle.
