Lee's Summit does not run a single citywide trash route. Under Code Sec. 25-116(C), residents contract directly with a City-licensed hauler, and each hauler sets its own routes, collection days, and holiday schedule (some run zip-code-based days). Section 25-118 requires residential solid waste be collected at least once weekly. Containers may not go to the curb before the regularly scheduled collection day (Sec. 25-121). In April 2025 the City Council approved pursuing a citywide contract; an RFP is planned before the November 2026 election, with service starting no earlier than mid-2027.
Setting containers out before the scheduled collection day violates Sec. 25-121. Property Maintenance Code penalties run $50 first offense up to $500 for repeat violations.
