Lenexa, KS Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Collection frequency and hours are set in Section 2-11-B-10 of the Lenexa City Code, which binds every licensed refuse hauler. For residential customers, collection shall occur not less than one time for solid waste each calendar week. Residential collection for recyclables shall occur not less than one time every two calendar weeks, and haulers must offer residential customers the option to have recyclables picked up not less than one time every calendar week. Residential yard waste follows the schedule in Section 2-11-F-1: no less than weekly in March through November and no less than monthly in December through February.

Multifamily, commercial and industrial customers have no fixed number. Their collection frequency must be as necessary to prevent overfilling or the creation of fire hazards or health and nuisance conditions, and to maintain the premises in sanitary and unlittered condition.

Hours matter near homes. Collection within two hundred feet (200') of residential areas shall not commence prior to seven o'clock (7:00) A.M. nor extend beyond sunset.

The Code does not assign a particular weekday. Route days come from the hauler, which reports route schedules and maps for each collection route in the City to the City Manager by February 1 each year under Section 2-11-B-7. Each hauler must maintain an office with adequate telephone service or a website where it accepts service requests and complaints, and publish that number or address to customers (Section 2-11-B-11). Residents set containers out by the pickup time the hauler designates, within the 24-hour window in Section 2-11-D-2. A hauler also has to hold a City license and any Johnson County license, and it must offer a yearly bulky waste pickup under Section 2-11-E-1.
