Lynwood, CA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Lynwood Municipal Code § 9-1.6 makes rubbish and garbage collection a citywide service performed either by the city or by a contractor holding exclusive or nonexclusive rights the city council grants by contract, and the city may divide service by area, district, or type of occupant. Every occupant must provide a portable container under § 9-1.11, sized no larger than six cubic feet or 45 gallons and weighing, with contents, no more than 60 pounds, per § 9-1.12; oversized rubbish not suited to a container may still go out for collection so long as no single item exceeds 4 feet in length, 2 feet in width, or 60 pounds, and tree-trimming bundles may not exceed 60 pounds, 4 feet in length, or 24 inches in diameter under §§ 9-1.15 and 9-1.16.

Section 9-1.18 requires materials to be placed curbside, or between the roadway and property line where there is no curb, never in alleys. Section 9-1.19 sets the collection window: containers and bundles cannot be placed at the curb before 6:00 p.m. on the evening before the scheduled collection day, and owners must promptly remove empty containers from the street or alley right after collection. Collection fees are billed through the water bill for water customers or by separate bimonthly statement for others under § 9-1.20, and unpaid charges become a lien on the property and can lead to termination of service.
