Palatine, IL Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

The Village Code folds Palatine's trash collection into the water and sewer utility bill: Sec. 16-2(a) applies payments first to the refuse charge, then sewer, then water. Under Sec. 16-2(b)(1)a, every single-family dwelling pays a monthly curbside charge from the village fee schedule and gets one weekly pickup of garbage and refuse as prescribed in Sec. 16-3; a household can instead elect written rear-door service once weekly for an added monthly premium. Structures with two dwelling units pay double the single-family rate, and that service is mandatory for every two-unit building under Sec.

16-2(b)(2). Backing this schedule is Sec. 16-10's municipal waste system, created under a 1992 Project Use Agreement between the village and the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County: except for industrial, commercial and office-park waste generators who are exempt, every property owner or occupant inside village limits must dispose of system waste, meaning garbage, household waste, institutional waste and residential construction and demolition debris, through that licensed system rather than a private arrangement. Private collectors and haulers may not operate at all without a license issued under Chapter 20, and any licensee must deliver everything it collects to the transfer station the Solid Waste Agency designates, keep accurate books open to village inspection, and remit the village's rates and charges as an agent of the village.

Seniors 65 and older who hold title to their dwelling can apply in person at village hall for a monthly discount, and condominium or townhouse associations with individual pickup and comprehensive yard care can qualify for a yard-waste exemption discount.
