Palatine, IL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Sec. 16-3(b) of the Village Code confines curbside landscape waste, grass and shrubbery cuttings, leaves, and tree limbs, to two containers: 30-gallon, two-ply Kraft paper bags, or bundles no longer than four feet and no more than four inches in diameter. Either form is capped at 60 pounds, and bundles have to be tied with a natural fiber cord that is biodegradable, such as twine, so wire, tape or plastic ties do not qualify. The village only runs this service seasonally, from April 1 through the second week of December, unless otherwise specified by the village, meaning residents have no curbside outlet for leaves or grass clippings over the winter months and must compost, bag for spring, or use a private hauler instead.

Anything above the four-inch bundle diameter, larger tree limbs, stumps or logs, falls outside the landscape-waste definition in Sec. 16-1 and instead lands on the Sec. 16-3(d) list of materials the village will never collect at all. Landscape waste follows the same 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. set-out window as every other curbside category under Sec. 16-3(e). Condominium and townhouse associations that hire a comprehensive yard-care service and certify their own compliant disposal can apply for the Sec. 16-2(b)(1)c yard-waste exempt discount, a monthly reduction to the standard refuse rate for buildings that do not use the village's landscape-waste pickup at all.
