Peoria, AZ Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

City Code Section 22-20 makes the city's Solid Waste Division, or agents and contractors it authorizes, the sole collector of solid waste generated by non-commercial (residential) generators inside Peoria. No one else may collect or gather solid waste or recyclables from a residential account except as the chapter allows, which is why homeowners cannot arrange third-party residential pickup. The one carve-out took effect July 1, 2016: private companies may deliver recycling or solid waste service to multifamily properties of five or more units, using the dwelling-unit definition in A.R.S. Section 33-1310.

Section 22-27 puts the actual schedule in the City Manager's hands rather than fixing days in the code itself: the City Manager or a designee establishes the dates and times for residential and non-residential collection, and the city must give all users reasonable notice before changing those dates and times. Commercial accounts can also have specific collection hours written into their license under this section. Because the calendar is set administratively, residents confirm their route day through the city's utility account rather than a fixed code table, and any route change triggers a notice requirement rather than a public hearing.

Carts must be at the curb and containers kept closed under Section 22-26; lids left open are treated as overflowing and can be skipped by automated collection trucks. Section 22-2 backs the mandatory-service structure with real penalties: hauling uncontained waste that can spill, or dumping waste on public or private property outside the code's allowances, is punishable, and depositing waste in a container the depositor has not subscribed to receive service from is a separate violation.
