Peoria, AZ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

City Code § 22-28 defines "special items" as appliances and furniture, building materials such as lumber scraps, shingles, plaster, brick, stone and concrete, and soil, sod and rocks, which require special containers and vehicles to collect. Under § 22-28(b), only residences with an active city utility account may request a special-haul pickup of these special items, and the city charges a fee set under Chapter 2 of the Code, which it may require prepaid or add to the customer's regular utility bill. Separately, § 22-23(e) governs everyday bulk trash and brush that residents set at the curb without a special request: cut branches cannot exceed three feet in length or three inches in diameter, and the uncontained pile must sit neatly along the curb or gutter without blocking the sidewalk, and never within four feet of a mailbox, cable box, wall, tree, low-voltage landscape lighting or other item the collection truck's gripper arm could damage.

Section 22-1 separately defines "bulk rubbish" as material too large or oddly shaped for a standard container and not liftable by a normal collection vehicle, expressly including major appliances, furniture, building materials, tree limbs and noncontained trash piles, which is the material § 22-28's special-item process exists to remove. Section 22-23(d) caps ordinary bagged yard waste and trash at sixty pounds and three feet in length before it must go through the special-item channel instead.
