Bulloch County, GA Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Bulloch County Code § 8-57, part of the 2007 Clean Community Regulations in Chapter 8, Article IV, spells out how residents in the unincorporated county must prepare refuse before setting it out. Garbage placed for collection must have all free liquid drained from it and be wrapped, bagged or enclosed in paper or plastic. Household trash must likewise be drained of liquids before it goes in a refuse receptacle, and the code requires it to be combined with garbage rather than set out separately. Injurious items such as broken glass, light bulbs, sharp pieces of metal, fluorescent tubes and television tubes must be securely wrapped so they cannot cut or injure the collection crew.

The section draws two hard lines the crews will not cross: no biomedical waste may ever be placed in a container for county collection, and no hazardous refuse or building materials may be placed in, or collected from, a county receptacle. Section 8-58 backs this up by declaring any unauthorized accumulation of refuse or trash on a lot, street or other public or private place a public nuisance, and by making scavenging through a collection container, other than by someone the board of commissioners has authorized, unlawful.

Responsibility runs to whoever occupies the property: owners, agents, tenants and lessees of both residential units and commercial establishments are jointly on the hook for following these rules under § 8-68.
