Garden Grove provides weekly residential curbside collection of trash (black bin), recycling (blue bin), and green/organic waste (green bin) through Republic Services. Bins must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on the scheduled collection day and retrieved by the end of the same day. Containers should be placed at the curb with lids closed, handles facing the street, and spaced at least three feet apart and from any obstructions. All items must fit inside the bin with the lid fully closed; overflowing bins may not be collected. Recyclable materials include cardboard, paper, glass, aluminum, and plastics #1-5 and #7. Contaminated recyclables, plastic bags, and hazardous materials are not accepted in recycling bins. Under California SB 1383, all residents must separate organic waste (food scraps, yard trimmings, food-soiled paper) into the green bin for composting. Items not accepted in any bin include hazardous waste, electronics, batteries, paint, and motor oil, which must be taken to Orange County household hazardous waste collection events. Bulky items require a separate scheduled pickup through Republic Services.
Improperly sorted bins, overflowing containers, and bins left at the curb beyond allowed times may result in non-collection, warning tags, and code enforcement citations. SB 1383 violations may result in state-mandated penalties. Contact Republic Services for service issues or Code Enforcement at (714) 741-5792.
