Jupiter, FL Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Chapter 16 of the Jupiter Town Code, Solid Waste and Vegetation, spells out exactly how residents must store, prepare and set out garbage, trash and yard waste for town-contracted collection. Section 16-3 requires every household to keep garbage cans and trash containers large enough to hold four days' worth of waste in residential areas (three days in business and industrial districts). Section 16-9 caps the contents of any single garbage can at 60 pounds, and sections 16-6 through 16-8 require cans to stay in good repair, tightly covered against flies and insects, and watertight for wet material.

Yard trash gets its own rules under section 16-4: loose bundles of tree trimmings must be no longer than eight feet and under 50 pounds, stacked neatly in the swale between the street pavement and the sidewalk. Grass clippings, leaves and pine needles must be bagged or containerized, and loose vegetative waste (aside from palm fronds) is capped at six feet and 50 pounds per piece. Section 16-5 governs timing and placement: containers, bulk trash and recycling bins cannot go to the curb before noon the day before the scheduled pickup and must come back in by midnight of collection day.

Nothing may sit in a travel lane, sidewalk or on a neighbor's property. Section 16-10 requires cans to be emptied at least twice a week in residential districts, and section 16-12 makes it unlawful to let non-franchise refuse accumulate at the curb for longer than a single 48-hour period.
