Recology is Mountain View's exclusive hauler for garbage, recycling, and organics. Containers go out no earlier than the evening before collection and must be removed by the end of service day.
The City of Mountain View contracts with Recology for residential and commercial solid waste, recycling, and organics collection. Weekly service rotates by neighborhood, and three carts (gray trash, blue recycling, green organics) are provided to each single-family residence. Per Municipal Code Chapter 16, carts may be placed at the curb no earlier than 5:00 p.m. the day before pickup and must be returned to an out-of-sight storage area by the end of collection day. Overfilled carts with lids that will not close, carts containing prohibited material, or carts blocked by vehicles may be skipped. Multi-family properties typically use shared bins managed by the property owner. Additional carts, bulky item pickups, and compost deliveries can be arranged through Recology customer service.
