The City of Santa Clara contracts with Mission Trail Waste Systems for residential solid waste, recycling, and organics collection. Weekly service includes a gray garbage cart, blue recycling cart, and green organics cart (yard waste and food scraps). Carts must be placed at the curb by 6:00 AM on collection day and removed within 24 hours after pickup. Carts must be at least 3 feet apart and away from obstructions. Service levels include 20, 32, 64, and 96-gallon cart options with rates set by the city Council. Missed pickups can be reported within 24 hours for complimentary return service. Holiday schedules shift collection by one day when major holidays fall on or before the regular pickup day. All residents with garbage service are enrolled in mandatory recycling and organics collection under SB 1383.
