Conroe, TX Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

Sec. 54-33 establishes Conroe's residential recycling program for designated recyclable materials. The schedule of approved recyclables is kept in the office of utility billing and posted on the city's website, and the director of finance may change that list at any time based on market demand for recyclable materials. Before a revised schedule takes effect, the director must give written notice by inserting the new schedule in the city's utility billing mailing at least 30 days ahead of the change, so customers know what has been added or dropped before the switch happens.

The city supplies each solid waste customer a dedicated recycling collection container as part of standard service, separate from the regular garbage cart described in Sec. 54-32. Once that container is provided, it is unlawful for any person to place non-approved material in it, keeping contamination out of the recycling stream. The section's history shows it was originally adopted as a voluntary program in 2010 under Ordinance No. 1984-10, then made mandatory later that same year by Ordinance No. ' Recycling and regular trash are collected on the same day each week under the citywide schedule set out in Sec. 54-36.
