Kauai County, HI Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Kaua'i County Code Section 21-2.2(c)(2)(A) requires that brush, long stems of bushes, tree limbs and cuttings set out for manual collection be cut into three-foot lengths and tied securely into bundles weighing no more than fifty pounds. Bundles placed next to the public right-of-way must sit so they do not block or damage passing vehicles, and all brush is collected only from the regular collection point for that property. Section 21-2.2(c)(2)(B) limits any single set-out to a combined total of three receptacles, trash bags or bundles of refuse, hedge cuttings, stumps, branches and similar material, so a homeowner clearing a large amount of green waste must spread it across multiple collection days rather than piling it all out at once.

Section 21-2.3(a)(2) requires that grass cuttings and hedge-cutting bundles sit adjacent to the public right-of-way as Section 21-2.2(a) describes before the Department of Public Works will pick them up. Section 21-2.3(b) draws the outer boundary of the program by excluding from regular collection any tree limbs longer than three feet and any tree or shrubbery cuttings whose combined volume exceeds one cubic yard, along with other bulky items like tires and white goods; the property owner must haul oversized yard debris to a County transfer station, landfill or recycling facility at personal expense.

Violations of these placement limits fall under Chapter 21's general penalty in Section 21-1.6, a fine of up to one thousand dollars per offense with each continuing day counted separately.
