Surprise, AZ Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Residents must schedule bulk and yard waste pickup through the Surprise Solid Waste Division before setting material at the curb; putting bulk waste out before a scheduled date is itself a Code violation under § 58-130(b). Stacks go on the resident's property parallel to the street, never on the sidewalk, in the street, or behind a fence, and must stay at least five feet from any fixed object, mailbox, or solid waste container. A single scheduled collection is capped at ten loose cubic yards of brush or bulk, and the city will only remove up to 20 cubic yards of uncompacted bulk waste per fiscal year at no charge; anything beyond that the resident must arrange to haul and dispose of commercially.

Century plants, cacti, and similar cut vegetation have to be boxed in pieces no longer than three feet, packaged so crews are not exposed to the contents, and weigh no more than 85 pounds per container. Loose branches and brush do not have to be bagged as long as the material empties readily during normal collection, but grass clippings and other loose yard debris must be bagged and tied under § 58-129(a)(4). Tree limbs and branches longer than four feet, more than 100 pounds of metal, and unbagged leaves, weeds, or grass clippings are all listed as unacceptable for normal residential collection and must be removed by the responsible party at their own expense.

New residents get a one-time moving-box exemption within the first month in a unit, and the city manager can cap the volume collected under that exemption.
