Section 24-16(c)(3) sets the handling rules for brush: it must be placed in a container as containable rubbish, contained in closed boxes, or bagged as the director approves. Century plants, cacti and similar hazardous plants must go in closed boxes with lids to protect collection employees, tree branches and trunks must be trimmed to a six-foot maximum length, and no bag, box or container may weigh more than sixty pounds. Section 24-16(c)(4) further bars mixing brushable material with brush, wire, cacti, grass, dirt, rocks or other prohibited materials in the same set-out, since mixed loads complicate the collection process.

Palm skins that aren't disposed of as containable rubbish must instead be bagged, boxed or bundled together for efficient pickup (§ 24-16(c)(5)). on the scheduled Monday, with material clearly marked for city brush-and-bulk collection or it won't go out that cycle (§ 24-16(c)(6)). Landscapers and lawn-care businesses cannot dispose of client brush in residential containers except waste generated from that residence's own grounds and with the owner's approval; brush from other properties, common areas, private streets or corridors is the landscaper's own disposal responsibility (§ 24-16(b)).
