Huntington Chapter 67 and NY DEC rules prohibit feeding deer, waterfowl, and other wildlife. Deer feeding is a violation of 6 NYCRR 189 with fines up to $250. Bird feeders allowed with rodent/bear management.
NYS DEC 6 NYCRR Part 189 prohibits feeding of white-tailed deer statewide; Suffolk County has a heavy deer population and active DEC enforcement on the North Shore. Town Code Chapter 67 prohibits feeding that attracts rodents or creates a nuisance. Feeding waterfowl at Heckscher Park Pond and Mill Dam Park is prohibited by Parks Department rules. Songbird feeders are permitted but must be managed to avoid rodent and nuisance conditions.
DEC deer feeding: up to $250 and/or 15 days jail. Town nuisance feeding: $100-$500.
