Kenner, LA Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

Chapter 5's footnote adopts the State Uniform Construction Code (via Ord. No. 9425) for all construction in the City of Kenner, including the 2006 International Building Code, International Existing Building Code and International Residential Code, so any project governed by those codes needs the permits they require. Sec. 5-80 then makes the permit obligation directly enforceable: a person may not commence building or construction without the proper permits, commence work without holding a valid City of Kenner license or documenting an exemption, misrepresent whether a permit is needed, knowingly give false or forged evidence to the Kenner Department of Inspections and Code Enforcement, conceal information about violations, perform permit-required work without an active permit, or otherwise disregard municipal, parish or state permit requirements.

A related provision, Sec. 5-79, separately bars practicing contracting, or advertising as an electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, building or mechanical contractor, without holding a valid city license, and bars starting permit-required work before the permit takes effect. Sec. 5-3 also conditions any residential building permit on the plans clearly showing where smoke-detecting devices, sized at one per 800 square feet of living space, will be installed, and residential permits issued under this chapter must carry the stamp of the city's 'D.A.C.' under Sec. 2-83 before the Department of Regulatory Inspections will issue them.
