Boca Raton, FL Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 19-9, titled Electrical, is the local administrative amendment that channels all electrical work in the city through the state-adopted code rather than a separate municipal electrical code: the provisions of Chapter 27 of the Florida Building Code, Building, along with the fire protection provisions of the building code and the Florida Fire Prevention Code, govern the installation, alteration, repair and replacement of electrical systems, equipment, appliances, fixtures, fittings and their appurtenances, and the National Electrical Installation Standards apply to all electrical installations citywide. Section 19-3 defines the Florida Building Code for local purposes as the 6th Edition, 2017, as amended, together with the local administrative rules in Chapter 19, and treats the building code's own definitions as controlling for any term not separately defined in the chapter.

Section 19-5 additionally adopts Informational Annex F and I of the National Electrical Code, incorporated by reference through Chapter 27. Section 19-47 puts the building official in charge of receiving applications, reviewing construction documents and issuing permits for construction, alteration, modification, repair or demolition of any building, structure or appurtenance in the city, and that official also inspects the permitted work and enforces compliance. Section 19-49 lets the building official personally make required inspections or accept certified written inspection reports from approved agencies. Because the electrical rules run through the statewide Florida Building Code, a Boca Raton electrical permit brings with it every technical requirement of the current code edition, not a locally reduced standard.
