Camarillo, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Municipal Code Sec. 265, adopted by Ord. No. 2034, Sec. 2 (11-12-2025), provides that the administrative provisions of Chapter 1, Division II of the California Building Code, as modified locally, govern permitting, inspection and enforcement of work regulated by the California Electrical Code, and that violations and penalties are handled under Sec. 310. Those shared rules set concrete deadlines for electrical permit holders: Sec. 030 (CBC Sec. 2) deems an application abandoned 180 days after filing unless pursued in good faith, with extensions of up to 180 days each available for justifiable cause.

Sec. 035 (CBC Sec. 5) voids an issued electrical permit if work hasn't started within 12 months of issuance or is suspended for 180 days; reviving it within a year costs half the original fee, while a lapse beyond a year requires a new permit at full fee. Sec. 045 (CBC Sec. 8) charges an investigation fee equal to the permit fee whenever electrical work is found to have been started without a permit. Sec. 050 (CBC Sec. 9) limits refunds to 80 percent of the permit or plan-review fee, requested in writing within 180 days of payment, and Sec. 055 (CBC Sec. 10) authorizes reinspection fees for work called in before it is ready or when plans aren't available on site.
