Full Breakdown

Under Moorpark Municipal Code § 15.12.010, the city adopted the California Electrical Code, 2025 Edition (the state's version of the National Electrical Code) by reference as its own Electrical Code. Contractors and homeowners doing wiring, panel upgrades, or new circuits within city limits must pull an electrical permit from the Building and Safety Division and pass inspection under that code. A copy of the 2025 Electrical Code is kept in the building official's office for public review while the ordinance is in force.

Violations & Fines

Working without a permit or outside the adopted Electrical Code is a code violation; § 1.10.070 makes infractions punishable by the maximum fines state law allows, and unsafe work can be red-tagged.
