Lynwood, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Lynwood Municipal Code § 11-9.1 adopts the 2022 California Electrical Code, based on the 2020 National Electrical Code as published by the National Fire Protection Association, in its entirety as the electrical code of the city, regulating and controlling the installation, arrangement, alteration, repair, use, and other operation of electrical wiring, connections, fixtures, and electrical appliances on premises within the city. Section 11-9.2 currently reserves the local amendments slot for future use, so no city-specific electrical amendments are in force beyond the adopted state code.

Lynwood previously maintained a separate local electrical inspections chapter at § 11-8, but that chapter was repealed by Ordinance No. 1755, § 2, folding electrical inspection administration into the adopted code and the Administrative Code procedures at § 11-1.1. Electrical permit applications and inspections are processed by the Building Official within Community Development, and disputes over the Building Official's application or interpretation of the electrical code go to the Board of Appeals established under § 11-1.2, following the same procedures used for the building and housing codes in this chapter.
