Hoboken, NJ Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

The Plumbing Subcode Official is one of the officials the City of Hoboken established within its Uniform Construction Code Agency under § 86-1 to administer the state Uniform Construction Code's plumbing subcode, N.J.A.C. 5:23. Section 86-3C sets the plumbing permit fee schedule: a $50 minimum fee applies to any plumbing permit. Individual fixtures are billed at $15 each, covering a water closet, urinal or bidet, bathtub, lavatory, shower, kitchen or janitor sink, floor drain, drinking fountain, dishwasher, washing machine, gas dryer, kitchen range, garbage disposal and hose bib; a full three-piece bathroom with repiping is billed at $45 and a two-piece powder room with repiping at $30.

Water heaters are billed at $25 up to 50 gallons and $30 above that size, and heating boilers or furnaces are billed at $70 up to 200,000 Btu and $90 above that. A sewer tap-in is billed at $90, a house drain at $50, and a sewerage ejector pump at $60. Water service connections are billed at $75 for pipe up to two inches and $120 for larger pipe, and gas lines are billed at $20 up to two inches and $30 above that. These fees were last amended April 21, 2010 by Ordinance No. Z-34 and August 5, 2015 by Ordinance No. Z-363.
