Fencing & Safety Requirements

An open, unenclosed swimming pool in a Hanover County rear yard must keep its water's edge at least six feet from the rear lot line and ten feet from a side lot line, with a three-foot walkway required between the pool wall and the protective fence or barrier wall, in Hanover County outside the Town of Ashland.

Hanover County Code § 26-247(d)

(d)Accessory swimming pools, open and unenclosed, may occupy a required rear yard, provided the edge of water is not located closer than six (6) feet to a rear lot line or ten (10) feet to a side lot line. A walk space at least three (3) feet wide shall be provided between pool walls and protective fences or barrier walls.
