Prohibited Species
Jefferson Parish's Unified Development Code keeps invasive exotic species out of every landscaping and tree-preservation plan the parish approves. Developers must draw required trees, shrubs, and buffer plantings from the parish's List of Approved Plant Materials, and any species flagged as prohibited or invasive earns zero credit toward the greenspace, buffer, or tree-preservation totals a site plan needs before the planning department will sign off.
Invasive Exotic Plants Barred From Jefferson Parish Landscaping

Any plant material that is listed as prohibited on the list and is proposed to remain or be planted on the site shall not count toward meeting the landscaping requirement. Artificial plant materials and invasive exotic species shall not be used to satisfy the requirements of this section.
