Pocatello, ID Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 10.08.090 targets oversized vehicles, defined by exceeding any one of three dimensions: eight feet in width, twenty one feet six inches in length, or nine feet in height, and keeps them off residential streets and alleys beyond a one hour window. The one hour cap applies regardless of whether the vehicle is a commercial truck, trailer, or boat, so an oversized truck or trailer meeting any one of the three thresholds cannot sit on a residential block past that hour without falling into one of two named exceptions.

Moving vans are exempt for as long as they are actively engaged in loading or unloading, recognizing that a household move cannot be finished in sixty minutes. Recreational vehicles, defined in Title 15, chapter 15.40 of the code, get a wider seventy two hour window, but only for the purposes of loading, unloading, or otherwise preparing the RV for use, not for open-ended storage on the street. Outside those exceptions, an oversized vehicle parked past one hour is treated as any other unlawful parking violation: the Pocatello Police Department or city traffic control personnel can attach a notice under § 10.08.190, with the fee set by City Council resolution under § 10.08.210 and unpaid notices escalating to an infraction citation under § 10.08.200.
