Pocatello, ID Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Pocatello City Code § 10.04.040 gives the city engineer, or a designee, authority to regulate traffic within city limits and to place and maintain traffic control signs, signals, markers and other devices as deemed necessary. That authority explicitly covers the placement of speed limit signs, one-way street signs, stop signs, yield signs, truck route signs and pavement markings, as well as the designation and painting of curbs along loading zones, timed parking zones, no-parking zones and traffic lanes, and the regulation of turning movements. The section then makes it unlawful for any person to drive, stop, stand or park in violation of any signs, traffic control devices, or markings placed under this authority within city limits, giving painted curb colors and zone signage direct legal force.

This sits in Pocatello City Code chapter 10.04's general traffic provisions, alongside related city-engineer powers to set weight-restricted streets (§ 10.04.080) and vehicle-restricted streets or areas (§ 10.04.090) once signs are erected. The Pocatello Police Department enforces curb and zone violations through citation, and because § 10.04.040 sets no unique fine, a violation is prosecuted as a misdemeanor under the citywide penalty clause, § 1.04.040.
