Pocatello Municipal Code Title 17 governs zoning and parking. In the Original Townsite Overlay (OTO) — covering the historic core — driveways and impervious surfaces may not cover more than one-third (33%) of the front yard area. Gravel or unimproved driveways are not permitted in OTO. Citywide, residential parking standards are in Section 17.05.570.
Pocatello's parking and driveway rules are codified in the Pocatello Municipal Code Title 17 (Zoning). For properties within the Original Townsite Overlay (OTO) — the historic neighborhoods surrounding downtown — Section 17.04.220 requires that driveways and other impervious surfaces cover no more than one-third of the front yard area. Front yards (except where crossed by approved driveways and pathways) must be landscaped. Gravel or unimproved driveways/parking areas are not permitted in OTO. Outside the overlay, residential parking standards by land use are in Section 17.05.570, which specifies minimum off-street spaces and surfacing standards. Citywide stopping, standing, and parking rules are in Title 10 Chapter 10.08. The Planning & Development Services Department reviews driveway permits.
Exceeding the 1/3 front-yard impervious cap, using gravel in OTO, or building a driveway without approval violates Title 17. Code Enforcement can issue notices, require removal of non-conforming surfaces, and assess fines under the general penalty schedule.
