Lower Merion, PA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 92-2 of the Township Code inserts Section 302.10, Outdoor storage in residential areas, into the adopted Property Maintenance Code. It limits every residentially zoned or used property to no more than one boat, house trailer, pop-up trailer, camper-top motor home, unregistered or uninspected motor vehicle, or similar device for transporting people on highways or water, or for temporary living accommodation, stored outdoors at a time. The same section then imposes a surface requirement: whatever single item is kept outdoors under this rule must be parked on a gravel or paved surface, not left on dirt, grass or an unimproved yard area.

The insertion sits alongside Section 302.11, Tree maintenance, which separately requires removal of dead or defective trees and dead branches outside a right-of-way that risk injury or property damage, and Section 302.12, Abandoned worksites, which requires fencing, debris removal and erosion controls once an active construction site sits idle more than 180 days. Because these are insertions into the adopted 2018 International Property Maintenance Code under § 92-1, enforcement follows the chapter's general procedure: the Code Official issues a written notice of violation under inserted Section 106.2 describing the condition and a time limit to correct it, and if the notice is not promptly complied with the Code Official can proceed by citation or ask the Township Solicitor to sue.

The chapter's general penalty clause, inserted Section 106.4, applies to a Section 302.10 violation the same as any other Property Maintenance Code violation: a summary offense with a fine of up to $1,000 for each offense, and each day the noncompliant vehicle or equipment remains on an unpaved surface, or a second item remains stored outdoors, counts as a separate offense.
