Lower Merion, PA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 145-28 of the Lower Merion Township Code authorizes the Board of Commissioners to prohibit on-street parking during specified overnight hours on designated highways, with the restricted blocks and hours listed street by street in Schedule XVII, codified at Section 145-117. The schedule format lists the highway name, the affected side of the street, the prohibited hours and the exact limits of the restricted segment; changes to any entry require an amending ordinance, so each street's hours have their own ordinance history. Two representative entries: the east side of Mary Waters Ford Road, from Ashland Avenue to the driveway of the Belmont Hills Library, is off limits from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and both sides of Old Monk Road, from New Monk Road to and including the turnaround, are off limits from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Most Schedule XVII entries carry a Sunday and holiday exception unless the individual listing says otherwise. The restriction is separate from Schedule XVIII's daytime two-hour parking limit at Section 145-118 and from the resident permit program in Article VII, so a car legally parked under a daytime rule can still be in violation if its street also carries an overnight Schedule XVII entry. Enforcement runs through the Lower Merion Police Department and the Parking Services Department, who issue citations under the chapter's parking penalty. Drivers unsure whether their block is restricted should check the posted signs on their street or the current Schedule XVII listing, since the Board of Commissioners periodically adds, amends or repeals individual street entries by ordinance.
