Lower Merion, PA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 145-23, added largely by Ordinance No. 3620 in 2001, sets the Township's general standing, stopping and parking prohibitions outside any specific posted zone. Under Subsection C, no one may stop, stand or park on the roadway side of another parked vehicle, on a sidewalk, within an intersection, on a crosswalk, alongside a street excavation that would obstruct traffic, on a bridge or elevated structure, or on railroad tracks, except when necessary to avoid a traffic conflict or at a police officer's direction. Standing is separately barred in front of a public or private driveway, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of the approach to a flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign or traffic signal, and within 20 feet of a fire station driveway (75 feet on the opposite side if posted).

Parking specifically is barred within 50 feet of a railroad crossing. Subsection D requires every vehicle on a two-way highway to park parallel to the curb with its right-hand wheels within 12 inches of the curb, or as close as practicable to the shoulder edge where there is no curb; one-way highways carry the parallel rule under Subsection E. Loading and unloading get a narrow carve-out under Subsection B: a driver may stop briefly in a posted no-parking zone, on the right side of a two-way street or either side of a one-way street, to load or unload, and commercial vehicle operators get a reasonable period afterward to transact related business.
