550. Residential development may reduce the concrete thickness standard to a four-inch minimum, and storage of trailered items and recreational vehicles at single-family residences is exempted from the paving rule. Extended residential driveways serving up to four units must be paved at least 12 feet wide and cannot allow parking within the drive aisle unless the Fire Chief or a designee approves otherwise. 746(12), Parking, Required Yard, generally bars parking and loading spaces and their maneuvering areas from a required yard. Exceptions allow an SFR or MFR-zone parking lot with more than three spaces that doesn't back directly into the street to encroach five feet into the front-yard setback, provided a 10-foot setback from the right-of-way is kept; a common driveway shared with an adjacent parcel; and, in SFR zones, paving within a required side or rear yard.

Critically, subsection (12)(d) lets a paved driveway located in a required front yard, street side yard, or rear yard off an alley count toward the lot's off-street parking requirement, so long as the paved area meets standard parking-space dimensions and stays out of the public right-of-way.
