Plantation, FL Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Sec. 5(a) of the Plantation Code of Ordinances confines where an automobile may be stopped, stood or parked on residentially zoned or used property to four locations: inside a garage, carport, or other accessory building; on or within a driveway; in an approved paved parking area shown on a site plan (built of asphalt, concrete, brick pavers or other approved material over stabilized subgrade); or in a side or rear yard outside any setback and screened from adjoining owners by a fence, wall, improvement, or landscaping.

Subsection (b) separately bars parking an automobile within a street swale adjacent to residential property. Subsection (c) carves out an exception for temporary guest parking during garage sales, open houses, religious celebrations, holiday parties, and similar social events when a driveway cannot hold all guest vehicles. Subsection (d) prohibits outdoor automobile "storage," defined as keeping more than two vehicles outside the dwelling's garage, carport or accessory building that are not regularly driven weekly by a family member; storage is presumed if the count exceeds two plus the number of licensed drivers in the household, if a vehicle is observed mid-repair outside twice within a month, or if a covered/tarped vehicle sits in the same spot at least three times over six months.

That presumption can be rebutted with maintenance, registration, or tax records showing the vehicle averaged at least two hundred miles a month over the prior six months. Violations are subject to Chapter 1 penalties notwithstanding the general parking fine schedule in Sec. 25-39, and the term "automobile" under subsection (f) includes passenger vans and pickup trucks under one ton gross vehicle weight.
